LAKE FOREST Calif. (November 28, 2017) – ReVision Optics, Inc. (RVO), a leader in implantable presbyopia-correcting corneal inlay technology, announces that its Raindrop® Near Vision Inlay for presbyopia was featured in multiple scientific presentations and instructional courses at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) held November 11-14 in New Orleans. The presentations highlighted study data focusing on key attributes to improve clinical outcomes with the Raindrop procedure.

The instructional courses included a company-sponsored Raindrop User Meeting attended by approximately 60 ophthalmologists. This session was moderated by Stephen Slade, MD, with panelists Cathleen McCabe, MD, Mark Whitten, MD, and Jeff Whitman, MD. Dr. Whitman commented on the expansion of his practice since incorporating the Raindrop Inlay procedure and noted that the procedure provides an excellent solution for patients struggling with presbyopia. “My patient satisfaction level with the Raindrop Inlay rivals LASIK procedures and the Raindrop Inlay meets the unmet need for patients with presbyopia in my practice.”

Notable among the presentations featuring the Raindrop Near Vision Inlay, William F. Wiley, MD, Cleveland Eye Clinic, and Enrique Barragan-Garza, MD, a private practitioner in Monterrey, Mexico, were awarded with “Best Original Paper in Refractive Surgery” for the presentation “Clinical Outcomes and Sensitivity to Centration after Implanting a Shape-Changing Corneal Inlay.” Dr. Wiley stated, “We found that centration with the Raindrop Inlay is not an issue. This inlay can be centered on the light constricted pupil or the visual axis and, even in the presence of decentration of up to 0.75 mm, the visual outcomes remain excellent.”

“It is exciting to have clinical data supporting the Raindrop Near Vision Inlay discussed in multiple presentations during this premier ophthalmology conference,” said John Kilcoyne, ReVision Optics’ President and Chief Executive Officer. “We are very pleased with the enthusiastic reception from the meeting attendees and our customers as we build the Raindrop franchise into an everyday procedure.”

About the Raindrop Near Vision Inlay

The Raindrop Near Vision Inlay is placed in the cornea of the non-dominant eye during a 10-minute procedure. The Raindrop is comprised of approximately 80% water and has a refractive index very similar to the cornea. It is transparent and therefore does not restrict the amount of light reaching the retina. The reshaping of the anterior curvature of the cornea improves near vision.

The Raindrop Near Vision Inlay has received approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Indications for Use: The Raindrop Near Vision Inlay is indicated for intrastromal implantation to improve near vision in the non-dominant eye of phakic, presbyopic patients, 41 to 65 years of age, who have manifest refractive spherical equivalent (MRSE) of +1.00 diopters (D) to -0.50 D with less than or equal to 0.75 D of refractive cylinder, who do not require correction for clear distance vision, but who do require near correction of +1.50 D to +2.50 D of reading add.

The Raindrop Near Vision Inlay has received authorization to affix the CE Mark for the European Union, license approval by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (South Korea), approval by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (Australia) and registration with the Medicines and Medical Safety Authority (New Zealand). Other country-specific registrations are pending. Indications for Use: The Raindrop Near Vision Inlay is intended to improve near vision in adult presbyopic patients.
