Russia to stand a good chance for leading positions in the biotech field - Medvedev

Saint Petersburg. May 16. INTERFAX – Russia stands a chance to take leading positions in the biotech field, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev reckons.

"The paramount task is to facilitate upcoming trends and advances of the innovative approach to be backed by own developments. Biomed technologies are growing rapidly over the last years and here taking leading positions is quite possible", - Dmitry Medvedev said, while assessing a session of the presidential Commission for Modernisation and Technological Development of Russia’s Economy.

According to him, Russia has certain bedding for this, in particular, pertaining to the development of new biopharmaceuticals, cell and tissue-derived products, genome specific technologies.

Prime Minister highlighted that Institutes for development like RUSNANO, Skolkovo Foundation, Fund for the Promotion of the Development of Small Businesses in the Sphere of Science and Technology shall give due consideration to this field of activity.
