These past couple of weeks have seen more than a handful of massive healthcare deals. Moderna Therapeutics secured $451 million toward a planned $600 million round, Denali Therapeutics disclosed a $130 million Series B, Arcus Biosciences raised $70 million and ClearCare announced a $60 million growth financing. While tech gets the most media play, healthcare keeps chugging along.

Since the beginning of 2014, 2,089 venture investors have participated in at least one of 3,277 completed healthcare deals worldwide, according to the PitchBook Platform. Pharma & biotech has garnered the lion's share of the $44.2 billion invested in the timeframe (55.7%), followed by healthcare devices & supplies (25.4%) and healthcare technology systems (11%). Although this year is trending toward a lower number of deals than the previous two years, median deal size has increased: from $4.6 million in 2014 to $8.2 million so far in 2016.
