The official presentation of the joint Russian-Finnish Life Sciences Center established in close cooperation of 5 partners (of which 3 are from Finland), including Saint Petersburg Chemical Pharmaceutical Academy, University of Turku, Åbo Akademi, Turku Science Park, and the Union “Medical and Pharmaceutical Projects: 21st Century,” was held during the 4th annual Russian-Finnish Symposium “The Experience of Cooperation of Universities and Pharmaceutical Companies: from Research to Practice.”
The presentation of the center took place in the form of a press conference, where the heads of all five partner organizations shared their vision of future activities and development of the center. Following the ceremony, the Academic Council of SPCPA has officially awarded the honorary title of SPCPA Professor and a commemorative mantle to Kalervo Väänänen, the Rector of the University of Turku.
“We are developing the cooperation between our Academy and the University of Turku for many years.” said Igor Narkevich, the Rector of SPCPA. “We started with three small research projects to study the pharmacological properties of some medicinal substances. In parallel with research, there were always the educational activities, as the students of our Academy trained at the universities of Turku and Kuopio. We are confident that this project will further strengthen the ties with universities and companies in Finland and will give a new impetus to scientific research for developing and creating medicinal products.”
