Pharmaceutical industry grew by 80% in Kaluga region

On December 25, in the media center of Vest, a newspaper in Kaluga, the Governor of Kaluga region Anatoly Artamonov held a press conference on the results of outgoing year.

In his opening remarks, the head of the region presented the preliminary figures for 2017 to the media community of the region.

“I can say with full authority that we are successfully completing this year,” he said.

According to the Governor, the key sectors of the economy continue to grow. It is expected that, by the end of the year, the index of industrial production in the region will exceed 110% of its level in 2016. The pharmaceutical industry demonstrated a growth of 180% compared to the last year.

The head of the region brought attention to the fact that the exports by the companies of the region have doubled, which is largely the result of expanding trade with the countries outside CIS. Compared to the previous year, this figure increased by nearly 3 times.

The cluster of Pharmaceutics, Biotech and Biomedicine of Kaluga region was established in 2011 and, in March 2012, it received the legal status of Kaluga Pharmaceutical Cluster Association, which currently brings together 63 enterprises. The cluster specializes in preclinical studies and clinical trials, development, synthesis and manufacturing applications of pharmaceutical substances and radiopharmaceuticals, manufacturing of finished dosage forms and active pharmaceutical substances, infusion solutions and parenteral nutrition.
